The Concrete Jungle lead school edited the latest One Planet programme for the BBC World Service. The children covered a range of environmental topics and even got some handy tips from plant expert Chris Clennett the Gardens Manager at Wakehurst Place on the best plants for their soon to be created wildlife garden. The plants he recommended can survive drought (e.g. the summer holidays) and will attract bees too.
Here is the list
Cistus (Sun or rock roses)
Lavandula (lavender)
Phlomis (Jerusalem sage)
Lathyrus (various peas, including sweet pea)
Pisum (Pea or the wild version of our domesticated pea)
Myrtus (myrtle)
And a few more:
Ballota (hore hound)
Stachys (woundwort or lambs ear)
Salvia (clary or sage)
Helianthemum (rock roses)
Coronilla (shrubby crown vetch)
Melissa (lemon balm)
Origanum (oregano or marjoram)
Thymus (thyme)
Thanks Chris!
